High-Speed Dynamic Dynamics and Basket Tool Changing
Manufacturing high-volume medical bone plates, dental implants, and precision automotive common-rail components requires minimizing non-productive idle time. German Chiron 5-axis machining centers feature a patented basket tool changer mechanism located directly on the spindle head, executing chip-to-chip tool changes in as little as 0.9 seconds. This rapid tool exchange, combined with linear axis acceleration up to 20 m/s², drastically reduces overall cycle times during complex multi-tool production operations.
The rigid vertical traveling-column design isolates the workpiece fixture from spindle acceleration forces, ensuring structural stability during aggressive cutting cycles. Machining challenging biocompatible materials such as surgical Stainless Steel 304 and Titanium Grade 5 achieves high throughput while maintaining strict dimensional repeatability within ±0.002 mm across continuous automated batch runs.
High-Precision Series Production and Medical Cleanliness
Chiron high-speed spindles operating up to 24,000 RPM incorporate direct liquid cooling to suppress thermal growth during 24/7 continuous operation. Synchronized 5-axis continuous contouring generates smooth micro-milled profiles compliant with Surface Roughness Standards down to Ra 0.4 μm. Integrated optical tool monitoring systems continuously detect cutter wear or micro-chipping before dimensional deviations occur.
Every series production batch is monitored under strict statistical process control (SPC). In-process multi-point probing validates feature datums, while final inspection utilizing cleanroom CMM Metrology Inspection validates GD&T True Position and dimensional tolerances across multi-thousand-part production lots.
